1. Scope and contact
This Privacy Policy applies to SmartCompress, Android package com.smartcompress.video (the “App”), and to this SmartCompress website. “We”, “our” and “developer” mean the developer of SmartCompress.
Privacy questions and requests can be sent to easygamedevs@gmail.com. SmartCompress does not require an account and we do not operate a server that receives videos for compression.
2. Videos and metadata handled by the App
You choose the videos that SmartCompress can access through Android’s system file picker or send to the App through Android’s Share function. SmartCompress uses the access granted by Android to read and process those selected files.
| Information | Purpose | Where it is handled |
|---|---|---|
| Selected video and audio content | Create previews, compress the file, trim it, resize it, change codec or frame rate, and optionally remove audio. | On your Android device. |
| File name, URI, MIME information and file size | Open the selected file, display the queue, estimate savings, save output and support comparison or sharing. | On your device; selected history fields are stored locally. |
| Duration, dimensions, rotation and a small thumbnail | Show video details and calculate suitable compression settings. | Read and generated locally while the video is selected. |
| Available capture or modification date | Optionally preserve the media date when metadata preservation is selected. | Read locally. The private-metadata mode avoids copying this date and asks the export pipeline to clear embedded metadata. |
SmartCompress does not send video or audio content to the developer. The App’s size estimate is calculated locally from the selected media and chosen settings.
3. Local processing and storage
Compression uses Android Media3 and device media codecs. Temporary export and Smart Preview files are created in the App’s private cache and are removed on completion, cancellation or cleanup on a best-effort basis.
Completed videos are saved to the Android media library, normally under Movies/SmartCompress. They remain on your device until you delete them with a gallery or file-management tool.
The App keeps up to 100 history entries in private local preferences. An entry can include the display name, source and output content URIs, source and output sizes, date, preset, target size and comparison timing. Language, color palette, compression options and advertising display counters are also stored locally.
Android backup is disabled for the App. We cannot view or remotely delete local videos, history or settings because they are not stored on our servers.
4. Google services: ads, analytics and crash reporting
SmartCompress includes the Google Mobile Ads SDK to display banner, interstitial and app-open advertisements. It also includes Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP) to request and manage privacy choices where required.
According to Google’s SDK disclosure, Google Mobile Ads may automatically collect and share an IP address, user interactions with the App or ads, diagnostic information, and device or account identifiers such as the Android advertising ID or app set ID. Google uses this information for advertising, measurement, analytics and fraud prevention. The IP address may be used to estimate general location. Google states that this SDK data is encrypted in transit.
Depending on your region, device settings and consent choices, Google may serve personalized, non-personalized, limited or technical ads. Non-personalized ads can still use identifiers or local storage for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, security and fraud prevention. SmartCompress asks UMP for the current consent status and only requests ads when Google reports that ads may be requested.
Where Google requires a privacy-options entry point, the App displays Manage ad privacy in Settings so you can review or change the available choices. You can also reset or delete the advertising ID from Android settings where supported.
SmartCompress uses Firebase Analytics to understand screens viewed and feature interactions such as video selection, compression starts and outcomes, size-guard retries, previews, comparisons, sharing and setting changes. Compression settings and results are sent only as broad categories or counters. SmartCompress does not include video content, file names, content URIs or exact media paths in these Analytics events.
Firebase Crashlytics receives crash reports and selected non-fatal errors so we can improve stability. These reports can include a sanitized error category and stack trace, App version, Android version, device model, device state and a Crashlytics installation identifier. SmartCompress strips exception messages from the non-fatal reports it submits because those messages could contain a local file path.
Firebase and other Google SDKs may also process technical data such as app-instance identifiers, IP address, general device and operating-system information, performance or diagnostic data, and interactions with the App. Google may use an IP address to derive approximate location. This data is transmitted to Google; video and audio content is not attached to SmartCompress Analytics or Crashlytics events.
For more information, read Google’s Google Play data disclosure for Mobile Ads, Firebase privacy and security information, Privacy Policy and partner technology explanation.
5. Android permissions and system access
| Permission or access | Why SmartCompress uses it |
|---|---|
| Selected media access | Read only videos you choose in Android’s picker or explicitly share with the App. SmartCompress does not request broad read access to all videos. |
| Internet and network state | Load Google ads, obtain consent information, send Firebase Analytics events and deliver Crashlytics reports. Video compression itself does not require uploading media. |
| Notifications | Show background compression progress, completion status and a cancellation action on supported Android versions. |
| Foreground service and media processing | Continue a user-started compression queue while the App is not in the foreground, subject to Android limits. |
| Legacy external storage write access on Android 9 and earlier | Save completed videos to the public Movies/SmartCompress folder on older Android versions. |
You can manage permissions in Android settings. Refusing media access prevents SmartCompress from reading the affected video. Refusing notification permission may hide progress notifications but does not grant us any additional access.
6. Sharing and support communications
When you tap Share, SmartCompress asks Android to send the chosen output to another app. The receiving app and service then process that file under their own privacy terms. SmartCompress does not choose the recipient or upload destination.
If you contact support by email, your email provider and ours process your address, message and any attachment you intentionally include. Do not attach a private video unless you want support to receive it. Support correspondence is used to respond, diagnose the reported issue and protect against abuse.
We do not sell your selected videos or operate a data-broker service. Advertising data handled by Google is subject to Google’s terms, your consent choices and applicable law.
7. Retention and deletion
- Selected items: remain in the current App session until removed, cleared or the process ends.
- Temporary previews and exports: are deleted from private cache after use or during later cleanup on a best-effort basis.
- History: remains locally until you remove individual entries, clear App data or uninstall the App. Removing a history entry does not necessarily delete the media file it references.
- Completed videos: remain in the Android media library until you delete them. Uninstalling SmartCompress may not delete these public output files.
- Settings: remain until changed, App data is cleared or the App is uninstalled.
- Google advertising, consent, Analytics and Crashlytics data: is retained under Google’s policies, the configured Firebase retention settings and your available Google or Android controls.
- Support email: is retained only as reasonably needed to handle the request, keep necessary support records and meet legal or security obligations. You may request deletion by email, subject to those obligations.
8. Security
SmartCompress uses Android application sandboxing, private app storage, scoped content access and temporary URI grants. Public output files are protected by your device and Android media-storage rules. Google states that data sent by its Mobile Ads and Firebase SDKs is encrypted in transit.
No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep Android updated, use a device screen lock and choose sharing recipients carefully.
9. Your controls and privacy choices
- Choose exactly which videos SmartCompress can access.
- Remove selected videos before starting compression.
- Select private metadata mode and optional audio removal before export.
- Remove local history entries and delete output files from your media library.
- Manage App permissions and the Android advertising ID in device settings.
- Use Manage ad privacy in SmartCompress Settings when Google makes that option available for your region.
- Contact us about support information that you previously sent by email.
10. Children
SmartCompress is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly operate a server that collects children’s videos. Google advertising services may process the data described above, subject to distribution settings, consent choices and Google’s policies.
If you believe a child sent personal information directly to support, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
11. This website
This static website contains no advertising tag, analytics script, account system or tracking pixel. Its language selector stores only the selected language code in your browser’s local storage. The website server or hosting provider may process ordinary technical request logs such as IP address, browser information, requested path and time for delivery, reliability and security under the host’s own terms.
Following a Google Play or email link takes you to an external service governed by that service’s privacy terms.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when SmartCompress features, SDKs, legal requirements or data practices change. The effective date at the top identifies the current version. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, when appropriate, in the App or store listing.
